New: Cisco CCT Field Technician certification

Products and technologies are developing at an unprecedented speed. As an IT professional looking for a field technician career, now more than ever you are expected to wear different hats to adapt to the ever-changing IT environment. Our latest update to the Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) program responds to this growing demand and provides value to candidates and employers.

There used to be three offerings that will now be combined into one comprehensive certification: Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) Field technician. Continue reading to learn more about how this new CCT certification addresses current Cisco technologies, the convergence of different network domains, and alignment with Cisco’s current product portfolio.

New certification: CCT Field Technician

The updated CCT Field Technician certification represents a significant shift from the previous model. It will combine the CCT Collaboration, CCT Data Center, and CCT Routing and Switching certifications, incorporate updated legacy topics, and introduce new Cisco products. This integration moves the program from a specialized approach to a more multifaceted one that reflects the current IT environment.

This is the Cisco certification for you, whether you want to establish a solid foundation in Cisco hardware and components or enhance your existing role with Cisco hardware replacement practices and best practices.

New Learning Path: Cisco Device Support for Field Technicians (FLDTEC)

To prepare for the new certification, we created the Supporting Cisco Devices for Field Technicians (FLDTEC) training path. This streamlined tutorial replaces three previous trainings: Cisco Collaboration Devices Support (CLTECH), Cisco Data Center System Devices Support (DCTECH), and Cisco Router and Switching Network Devices Support (RSTECH).

The FLDTEC learning path offers several advantages:

  • Reduced training time: Training has been optimized from 25-29 hours to a focused 10 hours, covering the most critical aspects needed for the exam.
  • Interactive teaching: Training includes more interactive items to increase engagement and retention.
  • Comprehensive coverage: In addition to the previous topics offered, this training also includes information on Unified Computing System (UCS), hardware identification, cabling, configuration backup and restore, and software upgrades/downgrades.

Although this learning path does not offer continuing education (CE) credits, you will gain valuable skills needed to take the field technician exam and work.

New Exam: Support for Cisco Devices for Field Technicians (500-150 FLDTEC) v1.0

Learning Path directly prepares you for the new Supporting Cisco Devices for Field Technicians (500-150 FLDTEC) v1.0 exam, which offers several improvements over previous versions:

  • Reduced duration: One exam now lasts 120 minutes, which is less than the previous three exams with a 90-minute format.
  • More complex: Now contains 100 umbrella items, down from 240 in previous versions.
  • Broad coverage of topics: Exam topics expand to include networking fundamentals, daily service tasks and tools, Cisco software, collaboration infrastructure and architecture, hardware replacement, UCS, and data center architecture.

There are no prerequisites for the exam. However, we strongly recommend that you understand the exam topics, which you can learn about in the Study Program, before testing.

Looking ahead

The new CCT Field Technician certification and exam will launch on December 12, 2024 through Pearson Vue. The training will be available at Cisco U. from December 5, 2024.

Existing CCT certifications, including Collaboration, Data Center, and Routing and Switching, will be phased out and no longer available after February 9, 2025. Existing certification holders may continue to use their existing certifications until they expire, but will need to take the new Supporting Cisco Devices for Field Technicians (500-150 FLDTEC) v1.0 Exam for recertification.
